This month’s student spotlight introduces you to Fernando Vives and Alex Forero, the LA-based Chilean duo known as Vives & Forero.
We are proud of our students and their accomplishments. Each month, we connect with Icon Collective students and alumni who have taken programs in Los Angeles or Online to showcase their hard work and success. Their achievements offer a glimpse into what’s possible after pursuing music education at the Collective.
We joined the Collective as soon as we saw the videos and did a little research about Icon. We knew it was the place we were looking for, immediately! And time spoke for itself, now Icon Collective is like our family. Best decision we’ve ever made! Vives & Forero
About Vives & Forero
This month we introduce you to Fernando Vives and Alex Forero. The Chilean Dj duo based in Los Angeles, California is known for their driving bass music and energetic performances at some of the industry’s biggest electronic music festivals. Seeking to advance their craft, Fernando studies music production at Icon LA while his partner in crime takes on music production courses at Icon Online.
Fernando is also a regular attendee at Icon’s Monday morning meditation sessions hosted by Icon’s Director of Online Education, John Von Seggern.
We want to highlight the Keyboard Techniques Program. It was an awesome course, one that really gave us what we needed, music theory. Also, it was a perfect way to complement what we knew already. The other course we enjoyed equally is Art of Flow. We think that this course is one of those experiences that every single person should have. We truly appreciate everything we learned here. Also, the concept of “being water” and adapt to whatever problem you could have is really one of the things that allowed us to overcome all the difficulties that being a musician has over the days. Fernando and Alex began their individual music journies in 2005. Drawing influences from their families, they started DJing at several nightclubs in their hometown of Santiago, Chile.
In 2011, they found themselves facing each other at a DJ contest; it was then they realized their synergy when performing together. Initially performing back-to-back, they played various shows together. A year later the two delivered their first original production, giving birth to the monsters we know as Vives & Forero.

Within a short timeframe afterwards, Vives & Forero had made a name for themselves on electronic music festival scene. The duo performed at some of the most notorious festivals such as Creamfields, Mysteryland, Ultra Music Festival, and the world-renown Lollapalooza. They have also performed alongside the likes of Diplo, Tiesto, Hardwell, Pendulum, Must Die!, Borgore, Griz, Bear Grillz, and more.
